THE ISSUE

Did you know that 795 million people are chronically undernourished? 1 out of every 9 people on earth has insufficient food to lead a healthy life. In many parts of the world, hunger is a daily reality. Generations of people are stuck in vicious cycles of poverty and hunger – not knowing where their next meal might come from or whether their hard work can withstand life’s setbacks.

Hunger isn't just about not having enough food to eat – it is also about not having reliable access to nutritious food. Children who don’t get the right things to eat suffer from poor brain development, delayed motor skills and slow or stunted growth. This affects their school performance and ability to support themselves later in life as adults. What’s more, children who are weakened by malnutrition have a much harder time recovering from preventable illnesses.

We can change this.
We believe a #hungerfree world is possible.

THE GOOD NEWS

The good news is that over the last 15 years, 200 million people around the world were lifted out of hunger. Thanks to the support of World Vision donors worldwide we have been part of that success story.

  • 161,000 metric tonnes of food was distributed to 33 countries to help children and families fight hunger and malnutrition.
  • 8.8 million people including children benefited from food distributions, helping them to fight hunger and malnutrition.

World Vision provides children and families with the means to fight hunger and achieve food security. Food security means that families will know where their next meal is coming from — and that it will be enough nutritious food to live an active, healthy life. There is still more work to be done through the support of Canadians like yourself.
